Edward was the son of George and Rose Currie of Cross St Northam. Edward is listed as Golf caddy boy in 1911 census aged 14

HMS Formidable was sunk by torpedo and went down off Berry Head in Devon. It is said that the story of Lassie was born with the rescue of one of the crew, who was taken ashore at lyme Regis.
