Frederick was another Career Soldier in the Kempe family Invalided in the Boer War He rejoined the 2nd Devons in 1914. On his Attestation form a hand written note states "for home service only'. Frederick was the eldest Son of Samuel and Ann Kempe, of 6 Eastbourne Terrace Westward Ho! Devon. He was one of five brothers, two were also lost Walter and William  April 1915 and October 1917.
