The Bideford Gazette reported (21/05/1918 P2/F) that Sydney was serving in France when he died. His death was as a result of a result of an operation for Appendictis. He left a widow and two young children. Sydney had married Carrie Littlejohns in the 2nd Q of 1916 at the time of his death she was living at 5 Nelson Terrace Westward Ho!.

Sydney was the youngest son of Samuel and Mary Fulford of 'Sefton House' North St, Northam (1911 Census) .He was then recorded as a Drapers Assistant. The C.W.G.C. show Samuel and Mary Fulford living at 5 Bay View Northam at the time of his death.
