Husband of Kathleen Son of George and Miriam Goss of Lewis Hill Northam. It was not clear to start with why Joseph was included, as he died in the village in April1917. Further research by Colin and Toni Elliott has revealed that Joseph had been awarded the silver war badge in 1915. This was issued to service person who had been honourably discharged due to wounds or sickness from military service in WW1. Joseph had been a Devonshire Regiment soldier from 1897 to about 1903. He signed up again on the 27/03/1915 with the 10th Devons, but in the September of that year he was diagnosed with turboculosis. He was discharged as unfit having only served 110 days.
