Research shows that in 1908 Charles was aboard a passenger ship, aparently travelling alone, and bound for Montreal age 16. When the war came In 1914 Charles joined , Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) crossed the Atlantic to Britain for training. They arrived in France in early 1915. At the time of Charles death the Regiment suffered huge losses in a battle for Moreuil Wood
He was the son of the Reverend Charles Henry and Constance M Vivian. 1911 census indicates the Reverend is staying with the rest of his family at Tantons Hotel Bideford. Later to take up residence at 'Rose Hill' Northam.
